Intro

It seems like everyone these days has a cell phone. Everyone has a their favorite music. What if you could create a ringtone of your favorite song? Well you can, FREE!! All you need is iTunes, and your favorite song. For this tutorial I am using a Windows. Some of the options might be different on a Mac, but in the end, you will get your ringtone!

Definition of a Ringtone(not official): A sound that plays when someone calls, or texts your mobile device.

What you will need

Here is a list of things you will need to create your own ringtones:

1: Computer with iTunes 10+

2: Your favorite song

Thats pretty much it.

step 8: Go back to this window if your using a windows computer.
step 8: Go back to this window if your using a windows computer.

Here we go

Here is how you make your ringtone.

MAKE SURE TO READ THE UPDATE!

1. Open iTunes and find your favorite song. For this tutorial I will be using 115 by Treyarch Soung.

2: Right click on your song and select "Get into". Navigate to the "Options" tab. Check the "Start Time" and the "Stop Time" check boxes.

3: In the time box thing next the the checkboxes enter a time you would like your ringtone to start and stop. The format is 00:00. A ringtone can not be longer then 30 seconds. When you have your 30 seconds or less ready, click "OK".

4: Now, right click on your song, and find the "Create AAV Version" and click it. This creates another version of your song. So now you have the ringtone and your favorite song but your not done!! Keep reading. Almost done!

note: These next steps get confusing if your dont read the CAREFULLY! Please read slow and steady.

5: Now you should see 2 versions of your song. One should be less then 30 seconds, and the other should be its original length. Right click on the less then 30 second version. Select the option "Show in Windows Explorer". (On a mac its something like "Find in Finder" or "Show in Finder")

6: Now, what you want to do is change the file extension from a ".m4a" to ".m4r". The file extension ".m4r" is the file extension for ringtones. What you are doing by changing the file extension is saying that the music file ".m4a" is actually a ".m4r" which is a ringtone. Do not close the window with the file in it. You will need this still.

7: Now go back to iTunes. Find the 30 second song you have created. Right click and select "Delete", this might be different on a Mac. If prompted say keep file.

8: Go back to the window with the file in it as seen in the picture above. Now just double click on the file with the ".m4r" extension. This should launch iTunes and play your ringtone. Your done!!

Congratulations. You have created your own ringtone. Putting it onto a iPhone is simple, you just use iTunes. I'm not sure how to add your ringtone to another type of phone. Try connecting your phone to your computer and finding where your phone saves the ringtone and copy your new ringtone there. This should work. I hope this helps everyone! Please comment on recommendations, problems and rate up if this helped!

Update-MUST READ!

If you plan on using that same song again to listen to you need to go back to the "Get into" window and change the "Start Time" and the "Stop Time". All you have to do is uncheck the 2 boxes. This will set the song back to normal. Thanks for reading! Dont forget to Comment!!
